FFVIII

Post  Connellius on Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:49 pm

Since i am not able to come on FFXI i borrowed the game FFVIII (pc version) from a friend

So i could keep myselve busy when i am borred at my rented room near the school so only have my laptop available.
Ofcourse i am fortunate enough to have a Gforce graphic card which is causing texture problems (it me who is writing it so it shouldn't be a big suprise that i have thise problem lol) anyway i have big black spots all over the place and also some kind of lines all over the screen (don't know how to discribe it in proper English)

I have already downloaded the patch ff8sqeanvpatch (V1.2) the lines were gone but the big black spots were still there. it wasn't much but it was a little improvement. although this glory didn't last for long since the patch the game kept crashing at a certain spot so was forced to reinstall the game. When i was past the crashing spot i installed the patch again but the time i still had the textureproblems big black spots and those weird lines.

I am aware that amoung the ppl who played it 90% has done it on the playstation, but still i hope anyone can help me with this problem.

Thank you in advance

Hi Conn!
gosh I sure do miss you!
I had funny squigly spots and blurs and all kind of display problems at one time, and it turned out to be a need to update the graphics card drivers...
have you been to the Nvidia? (that is the Gforce series, right?) site to see if there were any updates for your graphics card?

maybe our resident computer/graphics specialist SICKLOVE will have some answers for you Smile

hope your internship is going well and that you are able to return to us very soon. I'm selfish and miss your presence! lol!

oh, and please post here occasionally and let us know how you are doing.

conni if your getting spots on your screen, its 1 of 3 issues:

1. Drivers are in need of updating. Go to your graphics card manufacturers website and download the latest drivers. Install and restart your pc. If you are unsure which graphics card you have, if using Windows XP press START > RUN > type DXDIAG > press ENTER > Click on the GRAPHICS tab and look under name. For Windows Vista press START > type DXDIAG in search box > press ENTER > Click on the GRAPHICS tab and look under name.

2. Graphics card could be incompatible with the game. To see if this is the case try a different game and see if you encounter the same problem.

3. Final issue would be that your graphics card is over heating. If it is overclocked reset it to normal and try again. Also riva tuner allows you to increase the fan speed manually if your graphics card has one. set it to 100% and see if that helps? if it does then your graphics card will need replacing as its no longer staying cool enough and heat damage is fatal if it has incurred any at all already.

Hope this helps mate
